Childproofing seems pretty straightforward – why do we need you?!

Some childproofing really IS straightforward. Many risks are easy to identify. What is often NOT straightforward is what the best products or methods are to address a particular hazard. Not all gates will work on all stairs. Not all cabinet locks will work on all cabinets. It is easy to waste a great deal of time and money searching for and purchasing items which turn out to be the wrong choice. We can help you greatly in this endeavor, and save you significant sums of money and frustration.

Additionally, some big risks are not well known or understood, and having a trained professional conduct a thoughtful review of your home can often turn up any number of easily addressed hazards which, left unattended, could be a major source of injury. We use our own proprietary, patented methodology to assist us in making your home a safe and happy environment.

For many safety risks, it is perfectly reasonable for parents to conclude that they are not worried about the issue or that they’re “just going to watch.” For these parents, child proofing may offer the simple benefit of allowing you to relax and not having to be “on duty” all the time, which can get exhausting and tiresome at the end of a long work day.

For other safety risks, taking into account how rapid and severe the consequences may be of an injury, it is well worth being proactive about preventing an accident before it happens. Issues like falling down a staircase, getting ahold of a live electrical connection, or ingesting a toxic chemical can happen so quickly and easily if proper safeguards are not in place. Those are the types of risks that are not worth running.

Do you charge for an in-home safety evaluation?

While we are happy to provide advice free-of-charge over the phone or via email, we DO charge for our In-Home Safety Consultation, and the fee depends on the purpose and length of our visit.

Companies that offer “free onsite quotes” or that “credit back” their consultation fees against future work are hiding the fact that they charge more for their products and services in order to cover the very real expense of their employee’s time visiting your home.

We believe in charging a fair and logical price for our up-front consultation by itself. This allows us to do 4 important things:
1) Send a certified professional safety expert to your home (not a generic handyman or well-meaning amateur).
2) Spend the proper amount of time necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment of your home (our AVERAGE home visit is approximately 1.5 hours and results in a state-of-the-art online safety report).
3) Provide an honest and thoughtful summary of the safety issues you may wish to address, including a great many recommendations that cost NO money or which can help you AVOID expense (we do NOT “push” safety products on our clients).
4) Keep our product and installation pricing low.

Our typical consultation fee is $125.00 — a small price to pay for the wealth of important advice you will receive from a true expert.

Do you credit the cost of a consultation against any purchases we make?

For reasons discussed above, we do not, and we feel we would be doing our customers a disservice if we did so.

You don’t want someone to breeze through your home for “free” (or a minimal amount) identifying myriad ways to spend your money and then be pushing products on you to pay for their time spent doing so.  And, that is not how we do business.

We charge a fair and reasonable price to consult with our clients and provide the BEST advice we have to give – much of which can cost nothing or little to implement.  By charging for our consultation and comprehensive report as rendered, we are unencumbered by the financial “hole” we would otherwise dig for ourselves by charging nothing or too little for this valuable service – a hole we would have to fill by pushing product sales and overcharging for the products and installation we provide.  We don’t do that.

Who performs the consultation?  What is their training and expertise?

First of all, we are parents (and in some cases, grandparents) ourselves, so we have “been there, and done that” with regard to so many of the challenges our clients face in keeping their families and homes safe.

Next, we are highly trained and skilled safety professionals who have earned certifications from a variety of safety and preparedness organizations, such as the American Red Cross, the National Safe Kids Coalition, and the International Association for Child Safety.  Specifically with regard to child safety, two individuals in our company are IAFCS Certified Professional Childproofers® (CPC) – a designation which connotes years of field experience, intensive study and the requirement to pass a comprehensive certification exam which far exceeds what is required to pass the IAFCS Home Hazards Test.  The same individuals are certified CPS Car Seat Technicians through the National Safe Kids Coalition.

When do you conduct consultations?

Our consultations and installations are performed during standard business hours, with certain exceptions for special circumstances.  Our team of safety professionals comprises parents and grandparents with weekend family commitments similar to those of our clients, so we endeavor not to compromise that family time.  That said, we do strive to accommodate the needs of working parent clients.  In every situation, we work with our clients to ensure our work for you is performed on days and at times that are acceptable to your family’s schedule.

Who would be doing the installation work in my home?  Can I trust them?

Our installation team comprises individuals of impeccable honesty, trustworthiness, and diligence.  Everyone has passed a thorough background check.  Prior career experiences include: residential construction finish manager, NASA engineer, Boy Scout troop leader, Georgia Defense Force volunteer, veteran firefighter, Red Cross instructor, etc.  Our team performs high quality work, and we stand behind our efforts to ensure everything we install is functioning properly and meeting our clients’ needs.  It is not uncommon for clients to be away from their homes during portions or all of our installation visits.  We take this trust seriously and treat our clients homes with respect and care.

What if one of the products you install for me stops working?

If any product we have installed should stop working properly under normal operating conditions, we will repair or replace it at NO CHARGE, for as long as you maintain the item in place.  We are committed to ensuring the safety measures we provide will stand the test of time to protect your family.

What if I want to buy or install the safety products on my own?

We APPLAUD “Do-It-Yourselfers” and view our job as providing as much – OR AS LITTLE – help as you would like in achieving your safety goals for your family.

Whatever you want to tackle on your own, we’re here to help you make good choices about the products you use so you don’t waste time and money on solutions that are likely to break or fail.

You are always free to purchase products from any source you choose.  That said, you will find that our pricing on products is highly competitive with other retailers, and we offer the added benefit of standing behind the products we install with an unprecedented warranty.

Many of our clients possess the skills and inclination to install their own safety equipment.  For these clients, we can provide: 1) just our recommendations of what to do and why, 2) our recommendations and the products, or 3) our recommendations, the products and installation assistance as needed.

Do you offer ongoing support as my child gets older?

Yes. We encourage you to use us as a resource as your child grows and develops.  Safety risks evolve over time in relation to the intellectual development and physical capabilities of each child.  We’re here to give you thoughtful and effective assistance at each stage along the way.

Many of  the childproofing products I’ve seen look cheap or bad. Do you carry products different from what I would find in a typical retail store? And, are there different styles of safety products to match the decor of my home?

As a professional safety company, we see it as our responsibility to inventory a much wider range of products than what is typically seen in a physical store.  We are very focused on products that will both LOOK GOOD and WORK EFFECTIVELY in each particular situation.  It is unacceptable to us for our clients to have broken items or dysfunctional solutions, aesthetically or otherwise.

We stock well over 400 safety products to ensure we can address the very diverse needs of our clients.  Not all safety products are going to fit or work properly in a given location.  It is essential to put the right solution in place in each particular spot.  Our preference is that the solutions we provide to our customers not be visible at all.  That said, if they must be visible, we want them to complement the décor of our customers’ homes.

Style is not necessarily more expensive.  It’s simply a matter of knowing about and having access to a wider array of products than what one would find in a typical retail environment.

Safety is what we do, and ALL that we do.  We sweat the details on the products, so you don’t have to!
